Aliso Creek turtle rescue
A group dedicated to saving Orange County's Aliso Creek turtle populations.
ABOUT us
The Aliso Creek Turtle Rescue is a group dedicated to saving Orange County's turtle populations.
Currently We focus on a few spots along the creek where we make observations and record data that we collect. One of our biggest projects currently is dealing with the invasive red eared slider ( trachemys scripta elegans ) that people release into the Aliso Creek. This species is pushing out California's only native turtle, the western pond turtle ( Emys marmorata ). Our work is not limited to this, we are also studying the creek's turtle inhabitants, invasive and non-invasive. So far this work has proven to be quite interesting. Our organization plans to keep studying and learning not only about the creeks turtle residents, but also about ways we can conserve the creek, through these types of experiments and studies.

Aliso Creek Turtle Rescue
Location
Our organization is located along the Aliso Creek in Orange County, California.
The Sulphur Creek Reservoir is one of our study sites. However, we mainly focus on different spots along the creek.
Discoveries
As a growing study we are encountering more and more species of turtles in our study zones. Discovering any type of turtle in the creek is exciting, but discovering a species that shouldn't be there is always interesting. With these new discoveries come questions that arise. Questions like, How did that turtle get here? or Are there more of them in the creek? are always fun ways to get more studies going and to gather more precious information.
Species we have seen
Below we have listed all of the different types of turtle we have encountered on our journeys to the Aliso Creek.

western pond turtles ( Emys marmorata pallida )
Possibly a few map turtle species ( Graptemys pseudogeographica khonii and Graptemys ouachitensis )
